Ontario's grain, oilseed, and livestock producers will receive extra time to apply, amend, or cancel coverage under the Provincial Risk Management Program (RMP).
Agricorp, a provincial program implementation agency, announced Wednesday that the new deadline for applications or coverage changes for 2020 is June 30th.
In the southern regions of Ontario in Canada, a huge number of farms that grow vegetables and fruits, as well as vineyards. On many farms, there is a practice of self-collection of grown products.
The previous deadlines for submitting applications for changes were until May 1 for producers of grain and oilseeds and until April 1 for producers of cattle, pigs, sheep and veal.
“Despite the fact that the deadline has changed, manufacturers must submit an application as soon as they are ready for this.”, - said in Agricorp on Thursday in a press release.
The agency said extending the validity period would not affect coverage options for 2020, and delays in the program would not cause gaps in coverage.
“Increase in terms Rmp gives farmers more time to make business decisions and assess the needs for reaching their programs, especially when fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. ”, - the agency said on Thursday.
RMP service packs were sent to livestock producers in February, and are currently mailed to grain and oilseed producers, both of which are also available online through the agency’s website.
