Brazil benefits from Chinese pork deficit and ramps up meat production. The growth was driven by rising world prices and rising domestic demand.
“Interestingly, the average weight of carcasses was an average of 1.3 kg. easier than last year. However, an increase in slaughter compensated for lighter carcasses. Slaughter in the first quarter reached 11.3 million goals, which is 5% more than last year, ”commented an AHDB analyst.
For the year to June, exports of pork meat increased by 24% due to increased demand from China and the restoration of access to the Russian market. 391,200 tons of pork were exported, of which 26,200 tons went to Russia, and 92,200 tons (+ 29%) were shipped to China.
“The pace of these deliveries has especially increased in recent months, and the supply volumes in June 2019 have tripled compared to last year.
Current expectations are that pork production in Brazil will increase by 5% in 2019. However, if the global pork deficit worsens, we can see faster production growth rates, ”the analyst added.
According to official figures, Brazilian pork exports to neighboring countries, such as Uruguay and Chile, also increased by 17% and 45%, respectively.
