For the first time in the history of Ukraine, a state settlement of the Kanevsky reservoir with a sterlet included in the Red Book took place, the head of the State Fishery Agency Yaroslav Belov said.
The Camel Bay of the Obolonsky district of Kiev has replenished with more than 10 thousand annual sterlet. Experts believe that it will 100% take root in a pond.
One copy of the sterlet has 30-60 g of weight. The total weight of released fish is about 650 kg. The fish was raised by employees of the Production and Experimental Dnieper Sturgeon Fish Reproduction Plant named after Academician S.T. Artyushchika. Also, near the village of Protsev in the Borispol district of the Kiev region, 250 thousand pike fry were introduced into the reservoir. They were raised at the Kherson experimental plant for the breeding of young partial fish at the expense of state budget funds.
Over the past year, Ukraine has expanded the area of introduction of aquatic biological resources and released over 14 million copies of young fish, which were grown in state-owned factories, said Yaroslav Belov. For information, sterlet is a fish from the sturgeon family. Adults can reach 125 cm in length and weight up to 16 kg. The sterlet is remarkable in that it reaches puberty quite early in comparison with other sturgeons. Males enter maturity at the age of 4-5 years, and females - at 7-8 years.
