Developers have launched a new mobile phone application designed to use drone images to detect diseases like yellow rust and Septoria tritici previously in crops.
The Skippy Scout application was created by the agricultural company Drone Ag and is designed to help farmers better deal with crop diseases this spring.
Depending on the model, the drone can cover an area of about 12 m2 for up to 50 minutes, while rising to a height of 100 m.
“Detection of signs of common diseases as early as possible becomes increasingly important for their operational control”“Said Drone Ag founder Jack Wrangam.
Drones can cover the field and photograph the crop much faster than with the usual method of identifying diseases when walking in the fields.
Photos can be taken using the drone crop, when the drone scans the field, these images can be used to determine the extent of the effect of the disease on the leaves, after which a decision can be made on the need to take measures to combat the disease.
Almost any drone can be used to photograph the field, but if the farmer wants to access the images of his field in real time, the Skippy Scout application provides them with this opportunity.
In the case of Skippy Scout, the drone will fly in the immediate vicinity of the culture and take pictures at the level of leaves, which are sent to the user's phone in real time.
