This week, most of the greenhouse farms in Ukraine completed the implementation of cucumbers of the first crop rotation. As a result, the supply of vegetables in the country's markets decreased significantly, which caused a rise in prices for it, EastFruit analysts inform.
Now the Ukrainian market mainly offers cucumber grown in open ground. Due to the onset of cooling and a sharp drop in air temperatures, its maturation slowed, and the sampling rate decreased.
This affected prices, which immediately grew by 1.7 times compared with the end of last week and amounted to 10-14 UAH / kg or 0.39-0.54 dollars / kg.
Market participants explain the increase in the cost of ground cucumber with strong demand amid a small supply of the product, while the harvest of vegetables in Ukrainian farms has slightly decreased due to cold weather.
Currently, cucumber grown in open ground in Ukraine is sold at a higher price than in the same period of 2018 by 29%. Farmers say that as the weather improves, the situation with cucumber prices could change dramatically.
Earlier it was reported that tomatoes in Ukraine are also becoming more expensive, since due to cool weather their ripening has slowed and the sample in the country's farms has decreased.
