The Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS conducted a study of winter wheat varieties for resistance to durum smut.
Studies were conducted on an artificial infectious background. In total, about 113 varieties of wheat, both domestic (overwhelming majority) and foreign selection, were involved in the working process.
According to studies that were fairly stable in the years of research, damage to plants was observed with hard smut, which made it possible to determine varieties resistant to this disease.
Damage to plants by hard smut
The following anti-smut resistance levels were found against an artificial infectious background: Smuglyanka, Glorious, Spasovka, Irishka, Grom, Vita, Lyubimaya, Khersonskaya 99 and Fermersha.
Earlier, employees of the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS of Ukraine conducted a study of winter wheat varieties for resistance to leaf diseases (powdery mildew, brown rust, septoria, etc.) against a natural infectious background.
Powdery Mildew Plants
For information, durum wheat is a fungal disease, especially often affecting soft varieties of wheat. It does great harm.
Crop losses are usually equal to the percentage of infected ears in the field. Some diseased plants die at the germination stage.Septoria
This leads to a decrease in the density of crops and often happens with late sowing of winter varieties.
