According to Ukrainian beekeepers, bee pollen prices in Ukraine have fallen by more than 4 times compared to last season.
A year ago, pollen purchase prices were high and reached 180-200 UAH / kg. Then a lot of beekeepers realized that you can earn not only by selling honey, and began to improve pollen collection technologies in the hives. This turned out to be not such a difficult task, which made it possible to sharply increase the supply of pollen already in the current season.
But, as it turned out, in Ukraine there is no effective understanding of how to export pollen, so after the domestic market was saturated, prices began to plummet. Already, pollen can be sold no more than 40 UAH / kg.
Given that from each hive you can collect no more than 2-3 kg. pollen per season is a relatively small amount - up to 120 UAH. from the hive, or not more than 8% of the total revenue from sales of products.
A year ago, the share of pollen in the revenue of those beekeepers who focused on this product reached 30 percent or more. Collecting pollen is a daily painstaking work. In addition, this requires regular expenditure of electricity to dry it in order to obtain quality products.
Also, do not forget that the bee family consumes about 50 kg per year. pollen processed into bee bread. Accordingly, it should be enough to take it from the bees.
If there are no plants nearby that produce a lot of pollen, such as sunflower, mustard, rapeseed, willow or hazel, then you need to collect it carefully and in not so significant quantities. Regarding future pollen prices, beekeepers believe that they will remain low until mechanisms for efficient pollen export from Ukraine are developed.
Against the background of a decrease in revenue from the sale of honey due to falling prices for it, a decrease in pollen prices makes beekeeping in Ukraine an even less profitable business. Therefore, it is possible that the decline in honey exports, which has been going on for two consecutive seasons, will continue.
