On the island of Khortytsya in Zaporozhye, dead bodies of 15 wild boars that died as a result of the African swine fever (ASF) were discovered.
In connection with the incident, the island of Khortytsya was declared a quarantine zone, said the report of the acting head of the main department of the State Food and Beverage Service in the Zaporizhzhya region Sergey Prikhodko and general director of the Khortitsa National Reserve Maxim Ostapenko.
About an hundred wild boars live on the island in the Khortitsa National Reserve. An outbreak of African swine fever detected in the reserve can cause irreparable damage to the wild boar population and even completely destroy it. All livestock is now at risk of death, said Maxim Ostapenko.At present, a set of measures to eliminate the emergency situation is being worked out on the reserved island.
Earlier it was reported that Ukrainian pig farmers hide cases of animal disease with African swine fever. And this applies not only to subsidiary farms of the population and small private farms, but also to large industrial facilities in the agricultural sector. This situation contributes to the rapid spread of the disease throughout Ukraine.
