According to the deputy chairman of the Union of Beekeepers of Kharkov, Aleksey Oleinik, this year the region’s beekeepers produced 50% less honey than in 2018.
For beekeepers this year was unsuccessful. In the Kharkov region there was a crop of buckwheat, as a result of this buckwheat honey will be imported.
All this put the beekeepers in need of feeding the bees with sugar. Thus, this year local beekeepers produced 50% less honey than in the past, said Aleksey Oleinik.
In addition, many bees died in the region this season due to chemical poisoning after spraying the fields. Because of this, many even experienced beekeepers begin to reduce the size of their apiaries or even quit their job.
“Why do bees die? Because there is no law on what poisons agricultural producers should use. Ukraine produces those that can be used to poison bees, but there are also Russian and Chinese that Europe has long abandoned, and all of them have gone to Ukraine at a low price.
They help agricultural production, but harm bees, ”said the head of the Union of Beekeepers of Kharkiv Region.
