One of the distributors of foreign food in Nizhny Novgorod recently received a dangerous “package” from Turkey. We are talking about a large consignment of apricots that were sent to Russia from Turkey.

In boxes with fruit, Rosselkhoznadzor employees discovered the larvae of a dangerous insect in time and prevented the pest from entering the country.

According to the staff of the press center of the Nizhny Novgorod reference department of the Rosselkhoznadzor, in Turkish apricots the larvae of the polyphagous fly Apocephalus borealis, which is also called the humpback, were found. It will not be superfluous to note that humpbacks have been considered quarantine insects in the Russian Federation since 2014

It is known that such a fly actively multiplies in vegetables, fruits, mushrooms and land. Adults do not pose a threat to human health.

But the larvae can settle in the skin, mucous tissues, as well as in the eyes, lungs, intestines and other organs of the human body and cause serious disorders and pathologies. It is important to add that the humpback fly is also known as the carrier of cholera.

As soon as it became known that the Turkish cargo with fruits was affected by the larvae of the humpback, the owner of the apricots ordered to disinfect the fruits and destroy them in accordance with all the rules for the disposal of such products.
