The beekeepers of the Kherson region were drawn into a conflict with exporters due to different ideas about the price of the product. This year, intermediaries set the price at 30-36 UAH, which caused massive complaints from the beekeepers.
Beekeepers do not want to give their product at such low prices and complain that exporting companies do not advertise the Ukrainian product abroad. Ukrainian honey is sold all over the world, but exporters do not want to spend money on its advertising as a unique product. And without a brand, stable demand is difficult to achieve, says Yury Lavrinenko, chairman of the Association of Beekeepers of Kherson Region.
The intermediaries explain their position by the fact that the world market is already oversaturated.
At the same time, honey from Ukraine costs € 6-8 / kg on the shelves of European countries.
And domestic beekeepers are forced to give their product to resellers for € 1.5 / kg. In the Kherson region itself, honey is sold at a price of 80-160 UAH / kg, which is 2-4 times more expensive than wholesalers offer.
Experts have long advised beekeepers to unite and independently promote their product on the world market without the help of intermediaries. Meanwhile, beekeepers are already starting to make mead or moonshine from their stocks.
