For its current and future customers, Safram organized Pepper Day on its own 3.5-hectare plantation, located next to the Turanovac plant.
Saffron, the leading producer of hot peppers in Croatia, traditionally held Pepper Day on Friday, August 30, 2019 for all existing and interested future customers.
Guests were able to visit the pepper fields starting at 11 a.m. under the expert guidance of company director Ariana Shafranko Salikhchehayich and production director Zeljko Vlašić.
Visitors received answers to all questions about the culture. Interested parties had the opportunity to see what peppers look like on the fields of a farm, how they grow them, what are the aisles, and what is the structure of the bush and the fruit.
The enterprise has 3.5 ha. in his possession, which it uses mainly as experimental sites. This year, about 220 thousand seedlings were planted by the company's farmers. At the same time, half of them were hybrids, and the other half was from varietal seeds. The farm expects with great interest the results of the yield of both varieties, since the conditions of planting and care were the same.
The influence of climate plays a large role in the development of hot pepper. “This year is very difficult to start planting pepper. And when you really think you know everything about peppers, every year brings a new surprise. This year, the sowing delayed the rain, so we started planting on June 15, when the pepper should be already large, ”the director of the company said.
“Over the past 3 years, we have planted the Palotaš hybrid variety, which has proven to be excellent, especially due to its persistent red color. Resistant to disease. However, its disadvantage is its high cost, ”said the director.
