Cucumbers grown in summer greenhouses of small farms in Transcarpathia and the South of Ukraine began to appear on sale. It is expected that soon these products will be delivered to the market in large volumes, analysts at the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association (UPRA) said in a statement.
The number of offers of cucumbers from stationary greenhouses is also increasing, which leads to a steady decline in vegetable prices. As compared to last week, cucumber has become cheaper by 20%.
As of April 8 this year, manufacturers offer cucumbers of smooth varieties at a price of 40-42 UAH / kg ($ 1.50-1.52 / kg), prickly varieties - at 42-45 UAH / kg ($ 1.57-1.69 / kg). A week ago, the cost of Ukrainian cucumber grown in a stationary greenhouse was 55 UAH / kg or $ 2.06 / kg.
A negative effect on prices is also exerted by an increase in the supply of Polish cucumber, which sellers ship at a price of 30 UAH / kg, which is equivalent to $ 1.31-1.42 / kg.
Given the fierce competition in the market, owners of summer greenhouses offer their products at a price of 30 UAH / kg ($ 1.12 / kg). Paying attention to rather restrained demand, they are ready to further reduce the price. This is taking into account the fact that now cucumbers in Ukraine cost 30% less than last year.
