Freshmen of the Nemeshaev agrotechnical college of the National University of Life and Natural Resources of Ukraine, in the Kiev region, are engaged in the manufacture of cheese. They opened the first student production cooperative in Ukraine.
In the cooperative AgroUniverse so far only a dozen first-year students. All of them are trained by a veterinarian.
Young entrepreneurs cook cheeses right on the territory of their college, where a whole workshop is equipped for this. Experienced specialists help them in their work. The college owns its own farm, which has 220 cows and a zoo center, from where young farmers take milk for cheese making.
The cooperative produces so far only 4 types of cheese, one of which is called "student". According to the teacher of the college, Maryana Lelyukh, the cooperative was created so that students learn how to earn money from their work, as well as to organize agribusiness in plant growing and milk processing.
So, in the direction of crop production in 2019, the cultivation of organic products on an area of 30 hectares will begin. Revenues from this process will be received at the end of next season. Profit will be either shared between students, or part of it will be directed to the development of the college and society.
In any case, the students themselves will decide where the money will be spent, said Maryana Lelyukh. Pupils of the Nemeshaevsky College for the first time presented their product at the Cheese Festival in Kiev, where their cheeses were highly appreciated by the public.
