Analysts have recorded an unprecedented decline in the production of condensed milk in Ukraine, caused by lower demand. local producers produced 105.1 thousand tons of product, then in 2018 - only 72 thousand tons
This situation arose not due to the economic crisis and low solvency of the country's inhabitants. The thing is that tastes of consumers have undergone a change. The younger generation does not understand what kind of product it is - milk that can be spread on bread. They are well aware of nutella, as well as peanut butter. And youth perceives condensed milk more as a component for the preparation of cakes and muffins than as an independent product. Against the background of a decrease in consumer demand, “confectionery condensed milk” appeared, which contains palm oil, the director of the analytical agency Infagro Vasily Vintonyak said.
85% of the total condensed milk production in Ukraine falls on five enterprises. The largest contribution to the business is made by Ichnyansky Milk Canning Plant PJSC, which has been operating since 1958. It owns 30% of all products sold. The company's products can be found under the trademarks "Milada", "Mama Milla", "Ichnya". A little less powerful is the Roshen plant, which produces 20% of the production at the plant in Vinnitsa. But the condensed milk of this brand cannot be seen on sale, as it immediately goes to the needs of Roshen confectionery factories.
Everything is bad with condensed milk, not only domestically, but also in the foreign market. The falling demand for the product is a global trend. We can say that it is outdated. Condensed milk exports from Ukraine decreased by 16% compared with 2017 data.
In order to somehow improve the situation, manufacturers began to produce condensed milk with different tastes and additives, as well as to pack it in a convenient container. Still, the usual "white" condensed milk makes up 85% of the total product produced, Vasily Vintonyak summarizes.
