On the shelves of Russian supermarkets, as well as on market stalls and in the wholesale trade, the trend of onion prices continues to rise. Pricing experts attribute this increase to a reduction in onion stocks in vegetable storages and in farm warehouses. Despite the fact that the demand from the Russian buyer for this product is growing every day.

Today, onions in most retail outlets in the European territories of the Russian Federation are sold at a price of 20 rubles per kilogram. It is noteworthy that this is twice as much as the figures for the end of February and the beginning of March 2018.

Despite the fact that the demand for onions among Russian consumers is increasing, market participants often complain that finding onion of good quality in domestic markets is quite difficult: everything that has just gone on sale is suddenly bought up. The same applies to imported onions, which come to Russia mainly from Kazakhstan. It is noted that Kazakh onions, when compared with domestic ones, are significantly ahead of the Russian product in quality.

Accordingly, the price is also higher, which is about 20-24 rubles per kilogram package of the Kazakh product.

Improvements in the situation, market analysts are sure, should not be expected in the near future. Kazakh onions do not have time to satisfy the demand of Russian buyers, and the own stocks of domestic farmers are practically at zero. Market participants admit that the onion will continue to rise in price, and that it will be possible to launch a domestic product on the market with almost microscopic batches.
