In Penol, in the Isère department, Damien Vivier nurseries opened their new solar photovoltaic greenhouse on September 27th with Reden Solar, France's largest player in the field of photovoltaic energy.
With an area of more than 18 thousand m², this project will support the production capacity of the company’s enterprises, as well as produce about 2,102,000 kWh per year thanks to the infrastructure in the agro-energy sector, i.e. equivalent to household electricity consumption of about 2.5 thousand people due to this renewable electricity.
“Thanks to this vast agricultural project, it will be possible not only to use the benefits of growing under a canopy to improve the quality and uniformity of growing vegetables, but also to limit the need for watering and get very effective protection against the diseases that this type of production usually threatens,” commented Frank Mays, France Development Manager, Reden Solar.
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region accounted for 30% of the funding. Jean-Pierre Barbier and Yannick Noyder, representatives of departments and regions, emphasized the innovative and environmental aspect of the project, which will also create new jobs.
