On April 24-25 this year, the phytosanitary inspection specialists found a quarantine organism - a South American tomato moth (Tuta absoluta Meyr.) In a cargo of tomatoes imported into Ukraine.
A dangerous object was found during the monitoring of the phytosanitary condition of regulatory objects; the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection shares information on its website.
April 24, 2019 at the customs station "Konstantinovka" (Nikolaev region), an infected cargo weighing 17.86 tons was found. On April 25, 2019, at the customs station “Pravoberezhny” (Dnipropetrovsk Region), infected cargo weighing 20.4 tons was detected.In both cases, vegetables infected with South American tomato moth were sent by Turkey. In the framework of phytosanitary measures, the tomatoes were poisoned to the exporting country.
To prevent such incidents from recurring, documents were sent to Turkey about the non-compliance of goods with phytosanitary requirements of Ukraine.Earlier it was reported that Ukraine returned to the Netherlands the goods infected with the causative agent of potato cancer (Synchytrium endobioticum (Schilbersky) Percival). The organism was identified by phytosanitary inspectors in a cargo weighing 20 tons in the territory of the Ternopil region.
