Import stone fruits gradually conquer the Ukrainian markets. Since the beginning of May of this year, the supply of peaches, apricots and nectarines produced in Spain has been constantly growing in the wholesale markets of the country. According to Info-Shuvar, prices for imported fruits have declined markedly compared to last year.
So, at the country's largest fruit terminal ORSPO “Shuvar” in Lviv, imported peaches are offered at an average price of 70 UAH / kg or € 2.37 / kg), a year ago they cost more than 10% more.
The average price of nectarines is also 70 UAH / kg, which is equivalent to € 2.37 / kg and is as much as 20% lower than last year's prices. The cost of imported apricots, as of May 17, 2019, was fixed at 80 UAH / kg, which is € 2.71 / kg, that is, 25% cheaper compared to the same date in 2018.
Shuvar ORSP market operators say that low prices for imported stone fruits are due to a fairly good crop in Spain, which is the main supplier of stone fruits in Ukraine in the second half of spring and in the first half of summer.Ukraine imports 26-38 thousand tons of stone fruit annually. In the structure of the market for peaches and nectarines, imports account for more than 50%.
